The Selah Police Department is now accepting employment applications for a Lateral Police Officer position.
Summary of Position
Under the general supervision of a Sergeant, Police Officers are sworn, general authority law enforcement officers who perform a wide variety of public safety and community care-taking duties including; preserving the peace, protecting life and property, enforcing laws and ordinances, deterring and preventing crime, investigating criminal activity and providing public safety education.

Special Requirements
- Must be a citizen of the United States.
- Must be able to read and write the English language.
- Must be a minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age prior to hire date.
- Must possess a valid vehicle operator’s license.
- Must pass the BLEA physical ability test (PAT), pre-selection interview, polygraph, psychological and medical examinations drug screening, and a comprehensive background investigation regarding applicant’s aptitude, character, judgment, credit, driving record and criminal history.
- Applicants must possess normal color vision, and visual acuity of not less than 20/100 in each eye, corrected to 20/20 in the better eye and 20/30 in the lesser eye.
Qualifications
Education, Experience, and Training Guidelines: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Required Experience
- Washington State Certified Police Officer or successful completion of an equivalent Police Academy prior to hire.
- Must have completed his/her probationary period inclusive of one year of regular full-time service with original agency.
- Must not have been out of law enforcement for more twenty-four (24) months prior to application date.
- Peace Officer Certificate must be in full force without any additional training needed, apart from the Washington State Equivalency Academy.
- Must have a minimum of twenty-four (24) months working as a full-time commissioned police officer.
